VISIT TO THE NATIONAL MUSEUM, JANPATH- CLASS IV

As part of the ‘Flow India’ programme, students of class IV were taken on an educational trip to the National Museum, Janpath on 30th September 2015.

This museum was inaugurated in its present premises by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on May 12, 1955. It holds approximately 2,00,000 objects of diverse nature, both Indian and foreign, and its holdings cover a time span of more than 5000 years of Indian cultural heritage.

The students were enthralled by the various artifacts on display and it was an enriching experience for the youngsters giving them an insight into India’s rich cultural heritage. They developed a greater awareness about the diversity of India and why truly, India represents “Unity in diversity”. The students greatly admired the intricate detailing of the Mughal, Pahadi and Rajasthan miniature paintings. The gallery of musical instruments, north eastern tribal life, Pichhwai paintings all proved to be an eye opener of the times gone by. They could relate to many aspects of the north east tribal life which they had already studied in Social Studies in their class.

            UKG Costume Parade

UKG COSTUME PARADE- 08 SEP 2015

Play is a mechanism through which children develop their social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills and toys are the tools for it. The little angels of  TAFS, Kindergarten had a funfilled day on the occasion of ‘Costume Parade activity’ on 8 September 2015.The theme of the activity was ‘Toys’.

It was truly a delight to watch the children characterize themselves as their favourite toys and speak confidently. Other than developing their speaking skills and boosting confidence, the activity educated them on the need to play with safe toys. The activity was followed by a small discussion on sharing toys and playing regularly for being healthy and fit.

              Astronomy Workshop

ASTRONOMY WORKSHOP ON 02 SEPTEMBER 2015

              'BRINGING SCIENCE TO LIFE'

In an endeavour to provide the best of learning opportunities to students, the Astronomy Club of   The Air Force School- had organised the first   Astronomy workshop   for all the members of the Astronomy Club,    on 02 September 2015 in the school campus.

The   176 members of the Astronomy Club from classes VI-X were divided into five groups to have a better opportunity for hands on experience of the scientific activity. The venues of the workshops were the Activity Hall and the Audio-Visual Room.

The students were very excited and full of enthusiasm to explore the vast expanse of unknown information and knowledge and the content of the workshop were:

              K’Nex Engineering Challenge (classes VI-VIII)

As a part of this workshop, students of middle school got an opportunity to explore various features of structures through practical experience. They put their engineering skills and team dynamics to come up with exciting new structures.  They further tested those structures on various parameters important to an engineering design.

              Highlights:

              ·         Understanding the basic concept of stability and durability of 3-D structures

              ·         Understanding self sustaining structures

              ·         Understanding the relation between geometric shapes and stability of structures

              ·         Understanding the concept of stress and strain

              ·         Working in a team and completing objectives in a fixed timeline

              ·         Creative design inputs

              Miracles of Magnetism (classes IX-X)

Another core principle of science is magnetism. Our day to day life depends on the miracles of electricity and magnetism. In this activity, students explored the basic concepts of magnetism by means of various hands on activities. They were  also introduced to the applications of magnetism in medical science.

              Highlights:

              ·          Understanding the types of magnets

              ·          Polarity of magnets

              ·          Marking the magnetic fields produced by magnets

              ·          Identifying the factors affecting the strength of magnetic field

              ·          Understanding the relation between magnetism and electricity

              ·          Insights into the science of MRI

'Bringing Science to Life' students explored the various types of magnets. While every student had enjoyed playing with magnets as young children, today they went a step ahead and followed the effects of magnetism to draw the magnetic field lines. They experienced the force of magnetism and explored the causes. It was exciting to learn that even the cosmos plays with the effects of magnetism. The jaw-dropping celestial light show of the 'northern and southern lights' of earth had every student wonderstruck.

Combining technique, creativity and team dynamics students excitedly took up the challenge of building self sustaining, strong towers by working in teams. The Activity Hall became a store-house of energy as all student-groups worked enthusiastically to engineer the best towers doing the best resource and time management. The highlight of this activity was the tower testing, where the towers were tested for strength. The towers were dropped from a standard height and the euphoria amongst students to see theirs towers surviving the test was one of the best moments of the day.

The   first Astronomy workshop was appreciated and enjoyed by all students .They are enthusiastically looking forward for the next session of workshop.

                  Vasant Valley Theatre Festival 2015

                  VASANT VALLEY THEATRE FESTIVAL 2015

“We must do theatre, to find out who we are, and to discover who we could become”

Primary school years constitutes the formative years for children which further create their personality. Along with reading, writing and arithmetic, confidence, social skills and empathy are major learning to be inculcated. Such an opportunity was provided to 20 class V students of our school to perform a play on stage as a part of Theatre Festival organized by Vasant Valley School, from 26 to 28 August 2015 at the Air Force Auditorium. This three day fest enriched with art and talent was based on the theme, ^g¡ls rks Q¡ls^, in which 18 schools participated.

The entire process of creating actors out of these young stars was a great learning experience for children. A month prior, an interactive workshop, ‘An Actor Prepares’ was organized by Vasant Valley School for all participants. Children were taught the basic skills of performing on stage and creating a script to enact. They were acquainted with skills of voice modulation, dialogue delivery and exhibiting expressions. Children along with their teacher I/C were involved in the process of creating a script for the play. The script revolved around the constant efforts of some friends in making their ‘Kid’s Club’ a success. They also watched the performances put up by other schools and interacted with them after each play. Thus this festival helped them become more confident and enhance their social skills.
