MOVIE MAKING AND PODCASTING WORKSHOP
The IAF Educational & Cultural Society at Air Headquarters in RK Puram, New Delhi, organized a Movie Making and Podcasting Workshop for three Delhi-based Air Force schools- TAFS, AFGJI, and AFBBS, in collaboration with Penninsula Studios, from 20 August 2024 to 24 August 2024. It was held on the TAFS campus. The workshop spanned five days, and witnessed participation from 40 students across the three schools.
The workshop was led by Ms. Bidisha Roy Das and Ms. Priyanjana Dutta. It focussed on the art of movie making and podcasting. On the first day, participants introduced themselves, and the speakers provided insights into podcasting and its processes. They elaborated on the distinctions between filmmaking and video production. The participants engaged in role-play exercises based on various scenarios. A documentary titled "Paper Boy" was screened, followed by a questionnaire. Short clips illustrating different shot types, camera angles, and movements were also showcased. The participants got hands-on shooting experience within the TAFS premises.
By the second day, podcast teams completed their scripts and practiced speaking and articulation skills. The filmmaking teams concentrated on storyboarding, scriptwriting, and filming in designated locations. Topics for filmmaking included "Men Can Also Cry," "Anti-Bullying," "Anti-Harassment," "Parents Should Be Open to Children," and "Language Barriers." Podcast topics encompassed "Early Love and Crushes," "Tax Evasion," "Teenage Problems," and "Horror Thriller Story."
The next three days were dedicated to exploring various subjects, capturing shots from different angles, and assembling them into standalone pieces or sequences to highlight specific themes. Participants learned about the intricate details of filmmaking, including storyboarding, J-cuts and L-cuts in audio editing, jump cuts, audio cuts, actual filming, and post-production processes.
The final day featured presentations of the participants' videos and discussions on the Public Service Act (PSA). The movie titled "Are you Okay" and Podcast made by Prakhar were adjudged the best works presented during the workshop. Certificates of Participation were awarded to all participants, recognizing their dedication and hard work throughout the program. Surprise gifts were presented to the teams for Best Podcast and Best Filmmaking, celebrating their creativity and innovation.
As the ceremony progressed, participants reflected on their journey, sharing memorable moments and lessons learned. Anaya from TAFS remarked, “The intricacies of filmmaking and podcasting have taught me so much.” Pratishtha Chowdhary from AFGJI found the workshop pivotal in exposing her to the finer details of both fields that had always intrigued her. Ayush Jaiswal of AFBBS, said that, learning about filmmaking techniques, editing, various camera angles, and important dos and don’ts over the five days was an amazing experience.
The dedication and expertise of Ms. Bidisha Roy Das and Ms. Priyanjana Dutta is noteworthy. They actively engaged with all aspects of the workshop, elevating students from amateur levels to a deeper understanding of the creative field. Ms. Bidisha expressed her enthusiasm for working with budding talents, stating that their fresh ideas inspire new avenues of thought. Ms. Priyanjana noted that young learners with some exposure to filmmaking and podcasting are eager to learn, making it easier to nurture their creativity.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Principal Ms. Lomina Rajiv, who expressed gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and participants. She emphasized the importance of collaboration and creativity in education, inspiring everyone to continue exploring their passions beyond the event.
