UNITY DAY CELEBRATIONS - JUNIOR WING

UNITY DAY CELEBRATIONS IN TAFS JUNIOR WING

Unity Day, or Rashtriya Ekta Divas, is celebrated in India on October 31 each year. It commemorates the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a key figure in India's struggle for independence and the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.

In honour of National Unity Day, the TAFS Junior Wing organized a vibrant series of educational activities from October 21 to 25. These engaging initiatives aimed to instil a sense of unity and appreciation for India's rich cultural diversity among our young learners.

Class 1: “Unity in Diversity” Colouring Activity The youngest students participated in a delightful colouring activity themed “Unity in Diversity.” Through this hands-on experience, they explored the diverse festivals, languages, and traditional clothing from various Indian states. The discussions helped cultivate an appreciation for the country’s cultural tapestry, laying the foundation for understanding the importance of unity amidst diversity.

Classes 2 and 3: Creative Poster Making students from Classes 2 and 3 showcased their artistic flair by creating colourful posters emblazoned with the slogan “Hum sab ek hai.” This creative exercise not only allowed them to express their understanding of unity but also highlighted the beauty of the different cultures that form the mosaic of our nation. Their imaginative representations served as powerful reminders of the strength found in diversity.

Classes 4 and 5: Learning About Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to deepen their understanding of historical contributions to national unity, students in Classes 4 and 5 engaged with a PowerPoint presentation detailing the life and achievements of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This session illuminated Patel's pivotal role in uniting India's provinces after independence.

In Class 4, students participated in a reading comprehension exercise that recounted a significant incident from Patel’s childhood. This activity inspired reflective discussions on citizenship and the impact of individual actions on nation-building. Meanwhile, Class 5 students crafted insightful paragraphs about the “Iron Man of India,” exploring his vital role in uniting the princely states of India and reinforcing the values of leadership and perseverance.

The National Unity Day celebrations at TAFS Junior Wing were not only educational but also a heartfelt expression of unity and diversity. Through creative activities and engaging discussions, our students embraced the spirit of national integration, fostering a deeper understanding of their roles as responsible citizens. The activities successfully reinforced the message that together, we can build a stronger, more unified nation.

VISIT TO GANDHI SMRITI MUSEUM - CLASS V

VISIT TO GANDHI SMRITI MUSEUM - CLASS 5

                  (18-23 OCT 2024)

Gandhi Smriti ,formerly known as Birla House , is a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, situated on Tees January Road, where Mahatma Gandhi spent the last 144 days of his life before he was assassinated on 30 January 1948. This historic site was transformed into a museum of the Father of the Nation in 1973.

The children of Class V visited the museum on 18th, 22nd and 23rd Oct 24, in groups of approx. 70 students.

The aim of this programme was to include outdoor and experiential learning as part of their curriculum and to create awareness about the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the struggle for Independence and the cultural heritage of India. Museums inspire young minds and during this visit, Gandhiji’s philosophy of truth, nonviolence and simplicity, often referred to as "Satyagraha," which has inspired generations worldwide continued to work the same wonders on these impressionable minds.

The entrance gate itself is of great historical significance as it was from the top of this Gate Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru announced to the World about the passing away of Mahatma Gandhi, “… the light has gone out our lives and there is darkness everywhere…”

The museum volunteers took the children on a guided tour through the museum, citing interesting information from Gandhiji’s life and explained every exhibit. The children were shown the open lawn prayer area and the place where he was shot. The students  read the informative boards in the museum corridors and observed the  ‘dolls with a story’ on exhibit, freedom quilt, charkha mandala, Dandi march ‘box’ gallery, xylophone, human unity tower light,  as well as an animation film on Gandhiji’s life and various other  important things in the museum. The visit ended with quiz worksheets and booklet distribution on Gandhiji.

The students were also shown photographs, sculptures, paintings, inscriptions on rocks etc pertaining to the years Gandhiji spent here. Some of these images of Gandhiji as a child and young man are rarely seen. Some personal effects of Gandhiji too are carefully preserved and on display: his glasses, walking stick, a knife, fork and spoon etc.

The children quite enjoyed the museum looking at the memorabilia and artefacts kept there reflecting the simplicity and greatness of the humble leader. It was indeed an enriching experience for the children of Class 5, full of fun and some great learning too!
