    WORKSHOP ON ‘EDUCATION THROUGH MONUMENT’

    On 8 October 2024, The Air Force School, in collaboration with The City Palace and under the aegis of the IAF Educational and Cultural Society, hosted an innovative workshop titled "Education Through Monument." This event aimed to explore the integration of monuments into educational practices, fostering cultural awareness among students and adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching.

    Mr. Sandeep Sethi, Director of Education at the City Palace, Jaipur, and an alumnus of Jamnabai Narsee School and Narsee Monjee College, was the keynote speaker. With extensive experience in teaching Mathematics, Accountancy, Business Studies, and Entrepreneurship, he has developed 28 exhibitions and seven theatre productions under his initiative Education through Theatre. Notably, he leads projects like Education Through Monument and Financial Literacy Through Folk Art, and has created over 200 NCERT-approved graphic novels, used in schools nationwide..

    The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from eight esteemed schools: Air Force Bal Bharati School (AFBBS), Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute (AFGJI), Air Force Senior Secondary School, Racecourse, AF School Hindan, AF Bal Niketan Middle School Tughlakabad, AF School Gurugram, AF School Panchwati, and The Air Force School (TAFS).

    The event began with a Welcome Address by Ms. Lomina Rajiv, Principal of The Air Force School. She extended a floral welcome to Dr. Krishna Bhati, an educationist, Mr. Sandeep Sethi, and Mr. Tanishk Saraswat.

    Session Highlights

    Session 1: "The Red Elephant" Play


    Mr. Sethi presented a psychological play titled "The Red Elephant," which offered a reflection on the modern education system. Through the play, he emphasized the importance of creating inclusive environments in educational institutions that nurture various forms of creativity.

     

    Session 2: The Importance of Graphic Novels


    The second session highlighted the educational value of graphic novels. Mr. Sethi showcased how these novels make complex topics more accessible, with a live enactment of a graphic novel on Coordinate Geometry. This illustrated how visual aids can simplify abstract concepts. He also engaged participants with a captivating audio-visual presentation on the Rise of Nationalism, discussing historical insights and the role of AV aids in education.

    Hands-on Activities and Reflective Session


    The final session featured various interdisciplinary activities that emphasized the benefits of integrating different subjects. The day concluded with a reflective session where participants shared their thoughts and ideas.

    The workshop was graced by Air Vice Marshal Rajeev Sharma VSM, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Education), Air Commodore HS Sidana VSM, Chairman School Management Committee, Gp Captain Tarun Khare, Deputy Chairman, The Air Force School, Gp Captain VK Thakur, Gp Capt (Education), Schools, and Wing Commander Alka Chaudhary, Executive Director, TAFS.

    In his address, Air Vice Marshal Rajeev Sharma spoke on the concepts of Modified Learning (ML) and Awakening Inquisitiveness (AI), highlighting the need to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning needs and inspire curiosity in students. Referencing Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn,” he encouraged educators to engage deeply with students. He advised teachers to be empathetic, cautioning them not to act as "lawyers for themselves and judges for their students." He urged participants to apply the lessons from the workshop in their classrooms.


    As the workshop concluded, Group Captain Tarun Khare, Deputy Chairman, The Air Force School, presented participation certificates to each group as a token of appreciation for their commitment. The event ended with a sense of fulfillment, as educators left with new insights to enrich their teaching practices.

      SPECIAL ASSEMBLY FOR AIR FORCE DAY

      SPECIAL ASSEMBLY FOR AIR FORCE DAY

      To celebrate 92nd Air Force Day, our school held special assemblies for classes IX-XII and classes VI-VIII, on the 7th and 8th of October 2024 respectively.  

      The assembly began with a rendition of Vande Mataram, performed by the School Choir which set a reverent and patriotic tone for the occasion.

      Principal Ma’am, Ms Lomina Rajiv then led the assembly in prayer, after which Advait Dora, Head Boy introduced the significance of Air Force Day, sharing insights into the valour and dedication of the Indian Air Force.

      The House Captains and Vice-Captains spoke briefly about their House inspirations, and Vansh Diwan recited an inspiring poem. An open quiz on the Air Force engaged students in learning about its history and achievements. Following this, the Air Force Song was played, honouring the heroes of the skies.

      Joyce, Head Girl and Srishti, Vice- Head Girl led the students in a pledge to reaffirm their commitment to the nation. Principal Ma’am then shared an encouraging message, highlighting the Air Force’s role in national security. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem, leaving everyone with a sense of pride and patriotism.

      The assemblies served as a fitting tribute to the dedication of the Indian Air Force and inspired a deep sense of respect and admiration in the students.

        INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY CELEBRATION, JUNIOR WING (8 OCTOBER 2024)

        In honour of the 92nd Raising Day of the Indian Air Force, the students of junior wing TAFS organized a dynamic series of activities that highlighted the valor and significance of the IAF.

        Highlights of the day are as follows-

        Kindergarten students enjoyed an immersive learning experience at 'Deepak Corner,'(in TAFS senior wing) featuring the historic HPT-32 aircraft. This visit provided them with a unique opportunity to discover India’s aviation heritage, sparking curiosity and excitement about the world of flight.

        Class I students kicked off the festivities by crafting colourful origami airplanes, each proudly displaying the inspiring message, "मेरा विमान वायु सेना की शान।" Their creativity brought a vibrant spirit to the celebration.

        Class II hosted a captivating assembly dedicated to the IAF, where students shared fascinating facts, performed an Air Force song, and discussed about notable aircrafts and key operations. Their enthusiasm created an engaging atmosphere.

        In Class III students showcased their knowledge by creating informative class boards centered on various Indian Air Force aircrafts. These boards not only displayed detailed information but also included an interactive quiz that further enriched children’s understanding of the IAF.

         Class IV students participated in an exciting quiz. To aid their preparation, a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation filled with information about the IAF was shared in class groups. The students engaged actively, demonstrating a growing appreciation for this vital institution.

        Class V students participated in a thought-provoking speech activity, where they expressed their admiration for the IAF. Some shared their favourite aircraft and missions, highlighting the valor and innovation of the force. Others honoured heroes like Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, whose bravery during the Balakot airstrike exemplifies the spirit of the IAF. Students recounted significant missions such as Operation Meghdoot and Operation Safedsagar, celebrating the IAF's crucial role in safeguarding India’s sovereignty.

        Through these enriching activities, students not only honoured the sacrifices of Air Force personnel but also cultivated a deep sense of patriotism and appreciation for those who defend our skies. The celebrations powerfully reinforced the Indian Air Force's essential role in maintaining peace and security for our nation.

          DUSSEHRA CELEBRATIONS – JUNIOR WING (01-08 OCTOBER 2024)

          Dussehra is a nine day festivity which involves various celebrations of good over evil and ends on auspicious 10th day which is known as Vijayadashmi. TAFS Junior Wing celebrated the festival of Dussehra with full zest and zeal on 01 to 08 October 2024.

          UKG students celebrated this bright and colourful festival by drawing and colouring the picture of Ravan. The story of Ramayan was shared in the class. The children dressed up in a variety of colourful dresses.

          Class I students made Ravan by using glazed sheets, colourful papers and colours. The students  of classes I B and IC presented a special morning assembly on Dussehra on 8th October 2024. The students dressed up in a variety of costumes and presented a short skit depicting the significance of Dussehra and the victory of good over evil .

           The student of class II made the puppet of Ravan by using a stick,papers and the other decorative materials .The story of Ramayan was narrated by the teachers in the class. The students had great fun with their art and craft activities while acquainted with our rich culture and values.

                  VISIT TO PARLIAMENT HOUSE OF INDIA

                  The Political Science students of classes XI and XII visited the old and new Parliament House of India on Thursday, 19 September 2024. The trip commenced with an appetizing brunch in the dining hall made for members of Parliament. The students were briefed about the inner workings of the Parliament, as well as about the shift to the new Parliament by the staff of its training division, PRIDE.

                  Thereafter, the students were taken to the new Parliament building, comprising the new Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, where they got the opportunity to enjoy the rich art displayed along the walls, showcasing the vibrant artifacts of Indian history and culture. The tour was filled with interesting information and facts about the working of Indian polity and the Parliament. The show round comprised a visit inside the Lok Sabha as well as the Rajya Sabha and details about their various features and functioning.

                  The students also visited the old Parliament. They crossed a beautiful garden with humongous statues of various important leaders of our country to the Central Hall, where the Constituent Assembly had framed the Indian Constitution. The trip concluded with a visit to the library at the Parliament, which is the second-largest library in India, and proudly possesses the original constitution of our nation. The students found the trip to the Parliament a wonderful educational and interactive experience and were very grateful for the opportunity to visit such an important aspect of the democratic process of India, gaining important insight into the real functioning of the Parliament.

                      A TRIBUTE TO TRIUMPH: ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY (IX-XII)

                      The morning of October 3, 2024, saw The Air Force School bask in the glow of accomplishment as it hosted its Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony in the Aravali Hall. The event began with the gracious presence of the Chief Guest, Air Commodore S K Tripathi, VSM, and the Guest of Honor, Mrs. Seema Tripathi. They were accompanied by a distinguished panel, including Wing Commander Alka Chaudhary, Executive Director, TAFS; Mrs. Lomina Rajiv, Principal, TAFS; Mrs. Manju Malhotra, Vice-Principal, TAFS; Mrs. Deepa Krishnan, Headmistress Junior School; and Mr. Jagrup Singh, Section Officer, TAFS.

                      The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, accompanied by the gentle hum of prayers. Mrs. Lomina Rajiv, Principal, welcomed the audience with warmth and pride. “Today is not just a celebration of success,” she said, “but a reminder that with perseverance and collaboration, we can reach greater heights.” She also spoke about the students’ outstanding performance in the class X and class XII board exams. The school choir then took the stage, their voices rising in unison as they performed "Together We Can Achieve." The song, with its uplifting melody, echoed through the hall, reminding everyone that success is never a solo journey but a shared experience built on collective efforts. The morning continued with a captivating performance of "Sanlayan," a jugalbandi that wove together the dynamic energy of Tandav with the serene grace of Lasya. Their movements, a perfect reflection of the balance we strive for in life, left the audience mesmerized.

                      Students were awarded for academic excellence, and co-curricular achievemnets. In his address, the Chief Guest, Air Commodore S K Tripathi, VSM, praised TAFS for consistently surpassing expectations and nurturing the next generation of leaders. The momentous celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mrs. Manju Malhotra, Vice Principal of TAFS. She expressed her appreciation to the staff, students, and parents for their dedication and contributions to making the event such a success. The audience, filled with a sense of accomplishment, rose to the national anthem, ending the morning on a note of unity.

                      As the sun continued to rise in the sky, so did the spirits of all who attended, leaving with the belief that together, we did achieve!

                        A VISIT TO THE CRAFT MUSEUM, PRAGATI MAIDAN

                        A VISIT TO THE CRAFT MUSEUM, PRAGATI MAIDAN BY CLASS 3

                        Museums are significant places for educational purposes as objects and materials of cultural, historical and religious values are collected and preserved here . Museums can educate and empower students and people through their displays and exhibitions.

                        As a part of The Heritage Walk ,The Air Force School, Subroto Park had organized a visit to the Crafts Museum located in Pragati Maidan for the Class 3 children. The visit was organised in three batches on dates starting from  01 to 04 October 2024.    

                        The National Crafts Museum is one of the largest craft museums in India. History is brought to life at this place, where artisans demonstrate traditional embroidery, weaving, carving and pottery. One can explore rural life along with various culture and art.

                        The children , accompanied by their teachers visited the Exhibition gallery, the Village complex and the Crafts demonstration area. The gallery area of the museum had metal and wooden sculptures, textiles, masks, wall paintings etc. which helped children to learn about the customs and traditions of different parts of our country. The model village recreated different local villages and tribal settings, from around the country. The children were excited to see various kinds of huts and carts. They were impressed by the terracotta horses and figurines too. They were curious to see the different galleries which had gorgeous collections of art and craft pieces, with well-researched explanations attached.

                        They visited the audio visual gallery where they saw video on how natural colours and handmade wooden toys are made. Students also visited Swaraj hall which was set up on account of Gandhi Jayanti. In this hall they saw a live demonstration of how thread is made from cotton on charkha and then how it is used on handloom to make cotton towels.

                        The children were fascinated by the skilled craftsmen and were mesmerized by live demonstrations.It was an unforgettable experience which sparked creativity and curiosity in them . Such educational trips are a part of experiential learning curriculum which makes the concepts more clear and aids in effective understanding.

                          In an effort to combat the deadly disease Dengue, TAFS School organized a special Dengue Awareness Campaign. This campaign commenced on 28 September 2024. The program aims to educate students on their role in maintaining a healthy environment by preventing mosquito breeding, both at home and in their surroundings, including playgrounds, streets, and schools.

                          Various activities are being conducted as part of the campaign, including showcasing videos on the causes, effects, and symptoms of dengue, board displays, awareness speeches, and cleaning efforts. The school has also implemented sanitation measures, such as using repellents, to eliminate mosquito habitats and reduce the risk of dengue fever.

                              World Ozone Day, observed on 16 September each year, raises awareness about ozone layer depletion and explores solutions for its preservation. The 2024 theme, "Ozone for Life: 35 Years of Global Cooperation," emphasises the long-term significance of protecting the ozone layer, not just for current environmental concerns but for future generations' well-being.

                              In support of this, TAFS students took a pledge to safeguard the ozone layer, and awareness speeches were delivered to promote the protection of our life-saving atmospheric shield.

                                    “SWACHHATA HI SEWA” CAMPAIGN

                                    REPORT ON “SWACHHATA HI SEWA” CAMPAIGN BY TAFS (JUNIOR WING)

                                    " Mahatma Gandhi never compromised on cleanliness.  He gave us freedom .
                                    We should give him a clean India"
                                                                                                               - Narendra Modi

                                    Mahatma Gandhi freed us not only from the British rule but many of the bondages of our own making. He believed that sanitation was more important than independence and he made cleanliness an integral part of the Gandhian way of living.

                                    The “Swachhata Hi Sewa- Cleanliness is service"  is a campaign honouring Gandhiji’s life and his commitment to a clean India and the Swachhata Hi Sewa fortnight was observed from 14 Sep 24 to 01 Oct 24 across India. The children of TAS (Junior Wing) too engaged in various activities and understood that cleanliness is a collective  responsibility.The details of the activities are mentioned as under:

                                    Story telling: Students of Class 5 created short stories with pictures in their scrap books on Gandhiji's life ideals highlighting incidents of his belief in  "Swachhata Hi Sewa".

                                    Cleanliness Drive:Cleanliness is most important for physical well-being and a healthy environment.The  students of Class 4 participated in a school wide cleanliness drive, clearing trash from classrooms, corridors and playground.

                                    Speech activity: Children of Class 3 prepared themselves for an oration activity and spoke about Gandhiji's principles of keeping our surroundings clean to remain healthy.

                                    Poster making: Children of Class 2 made posters illustrating  the  famous “Gandhiji ke teen bandar” from his  preachings and giving the message of importance of Swachhata with the quote," Cleanliness is next to Godliness “.

                                    Bapu's Charka: Gandhiji dwelt on cleanliness and good habits and how they were closely associated with good health. Students of Class 1 were introduced to Bapu's Charka and his teachings on cleanliness with a colouring activity and they learnt how they can remain healthy if their surroundings are kept clean.

                                    The tiny tots of UKG too were not to be left behind and they learnt about Bapu and his message of Swachhata by doing a  craft activity of depicting his iconic spectacles using plastic bangles and the message to keep their classroom clean.

                                    Community Outreach: With an outreach program, students learn valuable life skills through shared experiences. Last but not the least, the campaign concluded with a special effort  by the children of Classes 4 and 5, where in they initiated a cleanliness drive (Shramdhan) in their neighbourhood under parental supervision on 02 Oct 24. Armed with protective gear and carrying a garbage bag, they cleaned areas in their near vicinity, inspiring their friends and neighbours to join in, making it a mass drive towards cleanliness.

                                    The various activities conducted enhanced student awareness about hygiene and showed them the power of community involvement in bringing about change.The children and the support staff  also took a Swachhata pledge to keep working towards a cleaner and greener India . The  campaign set a new momentum for continuing to keep the cleanliness drive going and inspiring children to strive for a litter-free surroundings.

                                      GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATIONS IN TAFS JR WING

                                      Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated on October 2nd, marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation. This year, on the occasion of Gandhiji’s 155th birth anniversary TAFS Junior Wing organized a series of engaging and educational activities on October 1st, to honour his legacy and teachings, particularly focusing on his principles of non-violence, peace, cleanliness, self-reliance, and moral integrity.

                                      To symbolize Gandhiji's iconic round spectacles and promote creativity. Students of UKG did a craft activity where they created spectacles using colourful bangles. This activity encouraged artistic expression while emphasizing Gandhi’s vision.

                                      Class I made models of the charkha using paper cut outs to illustrate Gandhi's role in the Swadeshi movement and his use of the charkha for self-reliance. It helped them to understand the importance of self-sufficiency and empowerment.

                                      Children of class II created stick puppets of the three monkeys using ice cream sticks and cut outs of monkey faces to convey the moral lesson of "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." This activity encouraged children to follow ethics and moral values inspired by Gandhi's teachings in our day-to-day lives.

                                      To deepen understanding of Gandhi's philosophies. Students of class III delivered speeches highlighting key teachings of Gandhi ji, including non-violence, truth, peace, self-reliance, cleanliness and the importance of education. This activity inspired reflection on how these principles can be applied today.

                                      Class IV students creatively expressed significant events in Gandhi's life. They made informative posters on different inspiring incidents from Gandhi’s life  which are special and left a mark on their mind. This activity encouraged research and critical thinking about historical events.

                                      Children of class V wrote inspirational Hindi stories and incidents related to Gandhi's cleanliness drives, reinforcing the importance of hygiene and public health. Their stories reflected Gandhi's efforts towards sanitation and cleanliness.

                                      Students enthusiastically wrote and spoke out slogans promoting cleanliness, such as "Cleanliness is next to godliness" and "Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat." This initiative fostered a sense of responsibility towards maintaining a clean environment.

                                      The celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti successfully promoted the core values that Mahatma Gandhi stood for. Through a mix of creative activities and discussions, students gained a deeper appreciation for his contributions to society. The event not only commemorated Gandhi’s legacy but also encouraged students to embody his principles in their daily lives.

                                        VEER GATHA PROJECT 4.0- JUNIOR WING (23 SEP 2024)

                                        Project Veer Gatha was instituted under Gallantry Awards Portal (GAP) in 2021 with the aim to disseminate the details of acts of bravery of the Gallantry Awardees and the life stories of these brave hearts among the students so as to raise the spirit of patriotism and instil amongst them values of civic consciousness. Under this project TAFS Junior wing organized Drawing & Painting competition on Monday, 23 September 2024, during school hours for the children of Class 5. 

                                        The children watched videos of gallantry award winners and read about them in detail before taking part in the competition. The children chose to make drawings and paintings on various topics like- My role model (Gallantry Award Winner), The life story of a freedom fighter, Portrait of any freedom fighter and Scenes depicting events that led to India's freedom.

                                        The best entry under this category, submitted by Master Anirudh Kumar Dubey of class 5 C was forwarded to the concerned department for a district level evaluation. 

                                        The activity helped create awareness amongst students about the bravehearts of our country and their bravery and sacrifice.
